Israel says 'three terrorists' killed in overnight strikes in Gaza
Israel orders first post ceasefire evacuation in Gaza's Bani Suhaila, displacing 3000 from tents amid zone expansion claims.

The Israeli military on Friday said that it killed three “terrorists” in an overnight attack in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The strikes were aimed at “eight terrorists”, out of which three were killed.

In a statement, the Israeli military said it had identified “eight terrorists” who emerged from underground and that the air force “struck and eliminated three of the terrorists”.

Without providing any information on the identities of its targets, it said that further strikes were launched and that “soldiers continue to conduct searches in the area in order to locate and eliminate all the terrorists”.

The Israeli military said its forces “remain deployed in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat”.

The US-brokered ceasefire, aimed at ending the nearly three-year-long war between Israel and Hamas, is still in place despite both sides alleging the other of violations. The first phase of the ceasefire largely halted the fighting and provided for the release of all remaining living and dead hostages held by terrorists in Gaza in exchange for prisoners and the bodies of dead Palestinians held by Israel.

IDF says nearly 70k Gazans died in war

For the first time since the war started in 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces acknowledged that nearly 70,000 Gazans have died in the conflict. However, the military has said that 25,000 of the dead were Hamas terrorists, rejecting claims by international organisations that most of those killed in the war are civilians.

Additionally, the IDF has released evidence indicating that approximately 13% of Hamas rockets misfired through early 2024, a timeframe marked by the daily launch of large-scale rocket salvos. According to these findings, these failed launches fell short within the territory, resulting in the deaths of numerous Palestinians.

It also said that Hamas has executed hundreds of Palestinians whom it considered political opponents or civilians whom it was trying to prevent from fleeing an area that the IDF said needed to be evacuated.

Americans are living longer than ever before — life expectancy at birth rebounds after Covid shock

US life expectancy at birth rose to a record 79 years in 2024, fully reversing pandemic-era declines. Declines in deaths from heart disease, cancer, and drug overdoses contributed to the increase; Covid-19 dropped out of the top 10 causes of death. Death rates fell across all racial and ethnic groups, with further improvement expected in 2025.
