Israel has said it cannot accept an end of the war with Hamas and can also not agree to the demand of the Palestinian terrorist organisation for the release of 1,500 prisoners, including many serving life sentences. An exclusive report by Reuters, earlier on Wednesday, said Hamas has made a three-phase ceasefire proposal that would quiet the guns in Gaza for four-and-a-half months, leading to an end to the war. Each phase would last for 45 days, said Reuters citing a draft document accessed by them. Soon after the Reuters report, Ynet cited Israeli officials saying they cannot accept an end to the Gaza war. Meanwhile, a report by Sky News Arabia cited anonymous sources saying Qatar, who along with Egypt is mediating to halt the Gaza war that has entered its fifth month on Wednesday, told Hamas that Israel would agree to the release of 3,000-5,000 Palestinian prisoners, whom Hamas could choose, under a hostage release deal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been stern on his stand that his country would not release thousands of terrorists in a truce deal. The report further said Qatar has been trying to soften Hamas’ demands for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, hoping to replace it with a pledge to push Israel to withdraw its forces. Qatar, as per the report, also offered the return of displaced Gazans to their homes, the construction of new, better, refugee camps, and renewed water and sewage services. With inputs from agencies
