Sirens sounded in Israeli settlements near the Gaza Strip on Friday, leading the military to deploy an interceptor missile against a potential threat, the Israeli military said.
The military later stated that the launch was caused by a false alarm and that no danger was identified.
On Friday, Israeli media claimed that US Middle East peace envoy Steve Witkoff was visiting a food distribution site in Gaza.
Witkoff had previously met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as global outrage grew over the circumstances of hunger in Gaza, which occurred over months of Israeli-imposed humanitarian restrictions.
Human Rights Watch described the aid sites run by the Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation on Friday as “death traps” that had become the scene of regular “bloodbaths”. According to the UN, Israeli soldiers have killed almost 900 Palestinians while attempting to approach the sites.
