Israel faces stiff Hamas resistance as Egypt opens border on day 27 of Gaza conflict

On Thursday, the Israel-Hamas conflict entered its 27th day, resulting in thousands of fatalities and the displacement of thousands of Gaza residents. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under pressure from US President Joe Biden to grant the Palestinians at least a temporary break from the ceaseless military campaign. Ground forces from Israel have moved closer to Gaza City. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 22,000 people have been injured and over 8,800 Palestinian — mostly women and children — have died in the conflict. The Health Ministry of Hamas in Gaza reported that in the first twenty-five days of Israel-Hamas’s war, more than 3,600 Palestinian children lost their lives. They were burned by explosions, struck by airstrikes, crashed by misdirected rockets, and crushed by buildings. . Israel has been telling people to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip, where the Islamist group is based, as it prepares to completely destroy Hamas. However, the war is drawing near to this area. According to a New York Times report, at least 15 Israeli soldiers have lost their lives during the ground invasion of Gaza since Tuesday. The 15 fatalities — the majority of which were infantry soldiers — were the first inside-Gaza casualties that Israel’s military had acknowledged in public since it began a ground invasion on Friday. On Wednesday, 335 people with foreign passports entered Egypt through the Rafah crossing from Gaza. For medical care in Egypt, 76 Palestinian patients and their companions have been evacuated. US President Joe Biden praised the Rafah gate’s opening to injured Palestinians and foreigners. He declared that the United States will keep pushing Israel to follow international laws that defend civilians during hostilities. On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Israel and Jordan. This will be his second visit to the area since Hamas ignited the conflict on October 7. In addition to reiterating American support for Israel, Blinken seeks to guarantee that aid for the Palestinians in Gaza reaches them. On Wednesday, apartment buildings in the crowded Jabaliya refugee camp near Gaza City were destroyed by heavy airstrikes. Jordan, a major US ally with a peace agreement with Israel, recalled its ambassador from Israel and instructed Israel’s ambassador to stay out of the nation in a show of growing concern over the Arab-Arab conflict.
