In his first public remarks since Tehran fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday slammed the US and certain European countries for stoking conflicts and wars in the Middle East.

Taking to X, Khamenei said, “If the villainy of the US and certain European countries is removed from this region, undoubtedly these conflicts and wars will be completely eliminated. Then the countries in the region can live together in peace, health, and prosperity.”

According to official IRNA news agency, in a separate statement, Khamenei said that the presence of US and European countries is a source of “conflicts, wars, concerns and enmities” but made no mention of the missile attack on Israel the night before.

He said Iran is hopeful of getting “rid of the enemies’ evil” and also urged Western nations to “cut their badness.”

Iran has long seen the US troop presence on its doorstep as a threat and demanded their evacuation from neighboring Iraq and elsewhere in the region.

Its Revolutionary Guards Corps said the attack was in response to Israel’s killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last week as well as the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a Tehran bombing widely blamed on Israel.
