A missile strike in southern Israel has heightened tensions, with Dimona — home to a major nuclear facility — coming under attack as part of the ongoing conflict.
Rescue services said at least 60 people were injured on Saturday evening after an Iranian missile struck the town, which is also popularly known as “Little India”.
Among those injured was a 12-year-old boy in serious condition after being hit by shrapnel, according to officials from Magen David Adom (MDA) and local residents.
A woman in her 30s sustained moderate injuries from glass shards, while 31 others suffered minor wounds from shrapnel or were hurt while running to shelters.
More than 14 people were treated for acute anxiety at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
Netanyahu signals continued strikes
Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country would continue its military operations.
“This is a very difficult evening in the battle for our future,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “We are determined to continue striking our enemies on all fronts”.
The strike on Dimona comes amid continued exchanges of missile fire, with southern Israel facing repeated attacks as the conflict intensifies.
Mounting tensions
US President Donald Trump warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face military action targeting its energy infrastructure, while Tehran issued fresh threats against regional infrastructure.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP”
