Following the assassination of an Iranian military officer, the Iranian military released an animated movie depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu being killed. Senior advisor Sayyed Razi Mousavi of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria was slain in an attack close to Damascus, the country’s capital. On Monday, December 25, this was reported by an Iranian news agency under official control. Mousavi oversaw the military partnership between Iran and Syria, where Israel has long been conducting attacks. Syria and Israel shared a northern border. It says it has targets connected to Iran. According to the IRGC, Israel was responsible for the attack that murdered Mousavi. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF), however, declined to comment on the situation. “I won’t comment on foreign reports, these or others in the Middle East. The Israeli military obviously has a job to protect the security interests of Israel,” IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told Reuters about the situation previously. In the animated assassination film, Netanyahu is shown exploding from behind his desk by a time bomb.

Iran sent Israel a dire warning following Mousavi’s demise. “The usurper and savage Zionist regime will pay for this crime,” the IRGC declared in a statement. Additionally, Israel will “certainly pay the price” for Mousavi’s passing, according to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who also described it as “a sign of the Zionist regime’s frustration and weakness in the region.” According to Iranian officials, Mousavi was a personal friend of Iran’s elite Quds Force commander, Gen. Qassim Soleimani. In January 2020, Soleimani was assassinated by a US drone attack in Iraq. Mousavi was also one of the IRGC’s longest advisers in Syria, and he allegedly managed Iran’s and Syria’s military cooperation. He is said to have spent up to 30 years in Syria. Within the Syrian Defence Ministry, he had his own office.
