An Indian student from Telangana has been reportedly missing in Chicago since May 2. The Indian consulate in Chicago confirmed that the student, named Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since the start of the month.

The embassy stated that they are constantly in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora hoping to locate and re-establish any point of contact with Rupesh.

“The Consulate is deeply concerned learning that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since 2nd May. The consulate is in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora hoping to locate/reestablish contact with Rupesh,” the Indian consulate in Chicago wrote on X, formally known as Twitter.

The consulate also tagged the Indian embassy in the US and the Ministry of External Affairs in the tweet.

Chicago police raise alarm

According to Chintakindi’s Facebook profile, the 26-year-old Indian student was pursuing a Masters in Business Analytics - Human Resources at Concordia University in Wisconsin. He has worked as a Branch Store Manager at Domino’s Pizza in the past.

Meanwhile, the Chicago police published a missing report on the matter. The police noted that Chintakindi went missing from the 4300 block of N. Sheridan Rd.

The authorities requested locals to contact the department and share numbers for further communication. An X user named, Kanukuntla PremKumar, claimed to be Chintakindi’s brother and mentioned that he had been missing for the past five days.

“My brother Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi was missing for the past 5 days in Chicago, mobile was switched off there is no information from Chicago Police,” Prem Kumar wrote on X.

In a separate post, he tagged External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, requesting them to look into the matter. “@DrSJaishankar @kishanreddybjp Sir please speak to concern Chicago police Department about the missing of Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi. Please it’s my humble request,” Prem Kumar said in the post.

The parents of the young Indian student have also expressed concern over the matter and the case is currently under investigation.
