India on Thursday said it has “noted” Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to the White House but reaffirmed that the India-US partnership is grounded in shared democratic values, and “we remain confident in the trajectory of this most consequential partnership of the 21st century”.

Responding to media queries at the weekly press briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed awareness of Munir’s meeting with US President Donald Trump on June 18. “We have noted the visit,” Jaiswal said, adding, “I have no further comment to make.”

However, Jaiswal was quick to highlight the breadth and values underpinning India’s engagement with Washington. “Our partnership with the United States is wide-ranging, grounded in shared democratic values, and driven by growing strategic convergence,” he stated.
