India and Romania set new targets for trade and talent exchange

India and Romania have renewed their efforts to strengthen trade, investment, and workforce partnerships through high level discussions in Bucharest. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada met Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Silvia Toiu to explore new opportunities under the India EU economic framework, focusing on trade growth, investment expansion, and labour mobility.

Strengthening trade and investment partnership

The meeting reviewed the upward trend in India Romania economic ties. India’s exports to Romania crossed one billion dollars in the last fiscal year, while overall trade stood at nearly three billion dollars. Expanding workforce mobility and skills cooperation

During his visit, Jitin Prasada also met Romania’s Minister of Labour Petre Florin Manole to promote skills based collaboration. With India’s large young workforce and Romania’s demand for skilled professionals, both countries are planning a structured pathway for about 30,000 Indian workers annually. They held discussions on recruitment processes, training programs, mutual recognition of qualifications, and possible social security arrangements.

Deepening cultural and educational ties

The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation in higher education, research, innovation, and cultural exchange. Both sides emphasized continuing policy dialogue, encouraging investment flows, and ensuring long term growth across trade, technology, and people to people connectivity.

Two US courts have blocked the deportation of Subramanyam Vedam, who spent over 40 years in prison for a murder conviction that was overturned. Vedam's deportation was halted by an immigration judge and a Pennsylvania district court until his case is reviewed by the Board of Immigration Appeals.
