India-Canada row: Allegation of Nijjar murder haven't hurt India's diplomacy, says High Commissioner to Australia

Canada’s allegations of the involvement of India’s role in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader have barely affected the South Asian nation’s diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific, according to High Commissioner to Australia Manpreet Vohra. Speaking on the sidelines of an Asia Society event in Sydney on Thursday, Vohra said that although Australia initially called for an investigation after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the accusations, there had been no significant reaction from Southeast Asia and beyond, Bloomberg reported. In an interview with Bloomberg, he said “I don’t think it’ll impact any other relationship. It was up to Canada to lay out evidence to back its allegations. The killing of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in June led to a diplomatic crisis between New Delhi and Ottawa in September after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India’s involvement in his murder. Nijjar was gunned down by two individuals wearing masks outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia. India has unequivocally refuted any involvement in the incident, dismissing Trudeau’s allegations as “absurd” and driven by political motives.
