Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has written to the United Nations Security Council, alleging that Iran is pursuing a “strategic plan” aimed at the destruction of Israel.
In a three-page letter, he emphasised that Israel remains resolute in its commitment to defend itself against any such threats.
“Iran has a strategic plan to eliminate Israel. Israel cannot and will not accept the threat of extermination!” Sa’ar wrote on X along with sharing a copy of the letter.

In his letter, he said that Israel’s strike on Iran “was launched following a critical development in Iran’s nuclear weapons programme and aimed also at thwarting the imminent threat of additional Iranian missile and proxy attacks.”
The letter further described the decision to launch the attack as taken “as a measure of last resort.”
On June 13, the Israeli Air Force attacked Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. During the attack, dozens of high-ranking Iranian officers and specialists working on Tehran’s nuclear capabilities were eliminated.

Meanwhile, expectations are growing in Washington that US President Donald Trump will soon heed Israeli calls to try to strike a decisive blow against Iran’s nuclear programme, using bunker-busting weapons that only the US can deliver.
The president’s rhetoric took a sharp turn following the apparent success of Israel’s early barrage that degraded Iran’s capacity to defend itself.
According to CNN, Trump is warming to the idea of using US military assets to strike Iranian nuclear sites and souring on his previous unsuccessful attempt to settle the issue through talks with Iran.
As always with Trump, it would be interesting to see if his tough talk is for real after he demanded “unconditional surrender” from Iran in a social media post.
