The air strike that killed the family members of Al Jazeera’s journalist Wael Al Dahdouh was carried out against “Hamas terrorist infrastructure,” IDF said in a statement. Wael Al Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Gaza, lost his wife, son, daughter, and grandson in an air strike that hit a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza where they were taking shelter after being displaced, as per Al Jazeera. “Strikes on military targets are subject to relevant provisions of international law, including the taking of feasible precautions to mitigate civilian casualties," Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement to CNN. “Regarding this specific case, the IDF targeted Hamas terrorist infrastructure in the area,” it added. Al Dahdouh’s family were displaced from Tal El Hawa to Nuseirat refugee camp, Al Jazeera’s office in Ramallah told CNN. The news of the deaths was broken by the network. “We note this breaking news that we transmit on the Al Jazeera network. A number of family members of our colleague, Wael Al Dahdouh were martyred, including his wife, son and daughter,” an anchor said as he fought back tears, “.. in an Israel bombing that targeted (his) house …” Al Jazeera anchor Abdisalam Farah said.

“The Network strongly condemns the indiscriminate targeting and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza, which has led to the loss of Wael Al-Dahdouh’s family and countless others,” Al Jazeera said in a statement. Al Dahdouh’s son Mahmoud was 15 years old while his daughter Sham was seven years old. “We are in a big catastrophe right now. A big tragedy is being perpetrated especially against women and children. At the end of the day, we are on this land. This is our destiny,” Al-Dahdouh told his network.
