Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, faces up 25 years in prison and a fine up to $750,000

Following the guilty verdict for his son Hunter Biden, US President Joe Biden said he would “respect the judicial process”.

Previously, Biden had said that he would not pardon his son. The President of the United States has the authority to pardon anyone of their crimes.

Hunter was convicted on Tuesday in a case of illegal gun-possession. He now faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000.

In a statement following the verdict, Joe Biden said that while he is the president, he is also a father and he would continue to love his son.

“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” said Joe Biden in a statement, as per AFP.

A jury held Hunter held guilty on all three charges against. The case against him is related to the possession of a gun while he was a drug addict.

The charges against Hunter were:

  • Lying to a licensed gun dealer

  • Lying on federal gun application form for applicants’ screening Illegally possessing a gun

  • Hunter lied that he was not an addict when, in reality, he was an addict

Under the American laws, addicts cannot own guns.

Hunter is the first immediate family member of an American president to be convicted with their parent still in office.

This is not the only case against Trump. Another case related to alleged tax fraud is set to commence against him in September.
