Hundreds of Hamas militants were killed and dozens were captured in the ongoing fighting in southern Israel and Gaza, an Israeli military official said Sunday. According to the Guardian, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari spoke to reporters on Sunday, more than 24 hours after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a multi-pronged incrusion into Israel — barging through the border fences, paragliding into Israeli communities, and speed boats trying to reach Israeli shores. The surprise attacks killed hundreds of people and militants took many back to Gaza as hostages. According to the latest updates over 300 Israelis have been killed and over 1800 were injured. Hamas has claimed to be holding dozens of Israelis captive across Gaza. Israel has also confirmed civilians and soldiers kept captives in Gaza. Israel responded to Hamas’ invasion by declaring a state of war. The Israeli Defence Forces launched the ‘Swords of Iron’ operation. The Air Force has been targeting Hamas headquarters and installations in the densely populated Gaza Strip. So far, 313 Palestinians were killed and over 2000 injured.
