Following last week’s deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, support poured in from all across the world for the victims and India. From global leaders to the Indian diaspora to netizens, all came together to condemn the terrorist attack. This week, a truck carrying the digital photos of the victim and a message for justice was spotted in New York’s Times Square.
The vehicle carried slogans that read “Humanity bleeds, the world must wake up” and “Terrorism will not go unpunished. Justice for Pahalgam.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired another Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting in New Delhi to discuss the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was followed by sessions of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), and a full Cabinet meeting.
In today’s meeting, officials briefed the committee on the cross-border links to the attack, which came shortly after peaceful elections and steady development efforts in the Union Territory.
On Tuesday, PM Modi told the top defence brass that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
During a high-level meeting, which was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the chiefs of three services, Modi affirmed that it is the national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism.
