Hamas reportedly obstructed the safe passage of foreign nationals in Gaza into Egypt, the White House has said. According to a report by CNN, Hamas did not allow anyone to leave the Gaza Strip forcing the US Ambassador to the Middle East David Satterfield to negotiate. As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsened, the terrorist group said that the foreign nations would be permitted to leave the region “subject to a number of wounded Palestinians being allowed to leave as well, which of course is not objectionable." However, it was later found out that approximately one-third of the wounded Palestinians were Hamas fighters which was “just unacceptable to Egypt, to us, to Israel," a White House official said. Following another round of negotiations an agreement was reached to ensure “that the wounded Palestinian civilians leaving with the foreign nationals were not Hamas fighters, [but] truly Individual civilians caught in this awful, horrific tragedy.” Finally, on Tuesday a breakthrough was reached to allow foreign nationals with passports to leave Gaza via Rafah crossing. “So, we had to work very carefully with the Egyptians and with the UN to get the mechanisms in place,” the official said who added that the final details of the plan were carried out between US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It may be recalled, that Hamas had also tried to stop Palestinians from moving from north Gaza to south after Israel issued evacuation orders last month before launching a ground invasion.
