Hafiz Saeed's Twitter account suspended to oblige India, alleges JuD

Lahore: Protesting the closure of its chief Hafiz Saeed’s official Twitter account, the JuD today alleged that the micro-blogging website took the step to oblige India. “Giving in to the pressure of New Delhi, the Twitter management has deleted official accounts of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) and its chief. The action is against the freedom of expression and we strongly protest against the double standards of the West,” JuD spokesman Yahya Mujahid said in a statement. [caption id=“attachment_1841427” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Hafiz Saeed. Ibnlive](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Hafiz_Saeed_ScreengrabIBN1.jpg) Hafiz Saeed. Ibnlive[/caption] Twitter yesterday had suspended Saeed and JuD’s accounts without specifying any reason. However, it is presumed as both JuD and Saeed’s accounts were inciting the people to take part in terror activities, the Twitter suspended their accounts. Questioning the policy of Twitter, Mujahid said the champions of freedom of expression could not tolerate truth. “Truth cannot be suppressed by such tactics. In fact, the action against the JuD has exposed those who claim themselves upholder of freedom of expression and democracy,” he said. “Facebook has already deleted many pages of JuD. Such steps are anti-Islam and anti-Muslims,” he said. The United Nations declared JuD a terrorist organisation and also individually designated Saeed as a terrorist in December 2008. Saeed, who also has a US bounty of 10 million dollars on him, roams freely in Pakistan and often addresses public rallies in which he routinely makes inflammatory statements against India. Pakistan has said that there is no case against Saeed and that he is free to move in the country as a Pakistani national. India has repeatedly demanded Pakistan to hand over Saeed for questioning over his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that claimed 166 lives. PTI
