New York: Misty Cook, the former girlfriend of Wisconsin shooter Wade Michael Page was arrested after police officers saw she had an illegal gun in her home during an interview for the gurdwara investigation, but the charges are completely separate from the Sikh temple slayings. The 31-year-old nursing student and waitress lived with Page and her 5-year-old autistic son in Milwaukee until June. Page had lived with Cook until moving to a separate house a few weeks before the shootings. Detectives hunting for clues related to Sunday’s shooting spree which left six Sikhs dead locked up Cook for illegal possession of a gun. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that Cook is barred from owning guns, because of a felony conviction from 2005 for fleeing a traffic officer. She will face criminal charges for having the weapon in her house. [caption id=“attachment_411252” align=“alignright” width=“380”] Misty Cook (far right). According to the Anti-Defamation League, which monitors hate groups, Cook shared Page’s obsession with the white-power movement. She was active in at least two neo-Nazi organizations. Dr Keith Ablow, a psychiatrist and member of the Fox News Medical A-Team earlier said Page may have gone on the deadly weekend rampage because he was mentally unstable. He suggested Page completely unraveled after being summarily dumped by Cook. “Wade Michael Page had recently broken up with his girlfriend. And while losing a romantic partner isn’t enough to stoke the flames of violence for most people, it can be for those whose minds already teeter close to the brink of chaos, due to underlying mental illness,” wrote Dr Ablow on FoxNews.com ( more here ). Cook’s arrest and her links to neo-Nazi groups like Hammerskin and Volksfront have kept her in the media spotlight. “For my part, I hope the majority of focus will be on celebrating the lives of the heroes in this situation. I find the good work that Satwant Singh \[Kaleka\] did for his people and his heroic last act are far more newsworthy than anything I could say,” Cook reportedly wrote in an email to the Los Angeles Times ( more here).
