Germany seeks arrest of Ukrainian man in Nord Stream gas pipeline sabotage case: Report

In the first warrant in the Nord stream sabotage case, Germany has sought the arrest of a Ukrainian map, according to a report.

In September 2022, multiple explosions were recorded in the Nord Stream, a pipeline that supplied gas from Russia to Germany. At the time of the explosion, the European gas imports from Russia were an irritant to the United States and Europe was also trying to wean off the Russian supplies.

Now, the German authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Ukrainian man Wolodymyr Z, according to a joint report from German media orgnisations ARD, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, and Die Zeit.

The report said that the man is understood to have lived in Poland until recently.

Last year, The Washington Post had reported that Ukraine was involved in the sabotage, identifying special forces officer Colonel Roman Chervinsky as the coordinator for the mission.

Earlier this year, Sweden had closed the investigation into the sabotage of Nort Stream and had said it had handed over the evidence to Germany. The explosions had been reported off the Danish island of Bornholm that damaged three of the four lines of the pipelines. Around 800 million cubic metres of gas escaped into the waters, according to an estimate.
