US President Donald Trump laced his speech to the Congress on Tuesday with slogans and quotes that extolled his agenda and pitch to Americans and the world.
In a speech that lasted for nearly an hour and a half, Trump dubbed his second term a God-ordained project and hailed his first month in the term as the best period of all time — even better than Founding Father George Washington’s time in office. He doubled down on tariffs as the way to restore American greatness and committed to strengthening the war on ‘woke’ culture.
The crux of the message was that a l ong period of American decline has ended and Trump is taking the country on a path to greatness via tariffs, annexations of foreign territories, and firing large swathes of the government workers, among other steps. Here are the top quotes:
‘I was saved by God’
Referring to the attempted assassination in Pennsylvania last year, Trump said that he was saved by God to serve a second term.
Since assuming the second term, Trump and his allies have framed the tenure as a divinely-ordained king’s reign — the White House actually posted a photo of him wearing a crown and captioned “Long Live the King!”
In the speech, Trump said, “I believe that my life was saved that day in Butler for a very good reason. I was saved by God to Make America Great Again — I believe that. I do. Thank you. Thank you very much.”
‘America is back’
In Trump’s worldview, America was long in decline and he is the nation’s savior. Now that he is back, so is America.
Trump began the speech with a declaration: “America is back!”
Then Trump went on the declare that the American spirit is back and American Dream is unstoppable.

“I return to this chamber tonight to report that America’s momentum is back. Our spirit is back. Our pride is back. Our confidence is back. And the American dream is surging — bigger and better than ever before. The American dream is unstoppable, and our country is on the verge of a comeback the likes of which the world has never witnessed, and perhaps will never witness again. Never been anything like it,” said Trump.
‘Most succesful’ presidency ever
Trump hailed his first two months in office as the best phase in the history of American presidency — even better than Founding Father George Washington
Trump said, “In fact, it has been stated by many that the first month of our presidency —it’s our presidency— is the most successful in the history of our nation. By many. And what makes it even more impressive is that do you know who No. 2 is? George Washington. How about that? How about that? I don’t know about that list, but. But we’ll take it.”
‘The system is not fair’
In his project to portray the United States as the victim’s of a purported predatory world, Trump dubbed the world’s trade practices as “not fair”.
Trump dubbed tariffs as the solution to this unfair treatment and mentioned Canada, Mexico, China, Brazil, the European Union, and India that treat America unfairly.
Trump said, “It’s very unfair. India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100 percent. China’s average tariff on our products is twice what we charge them. And South Korea’s average tariff is four times higher. Think of that. Four times higher. And we give so much help militarily and in so many other ways to South Korea. But that’s what happens. This is happening by friend and foe.
“This system is not fair to the United States and never was, and so on April 2 — I wanted to make it April 1, but I didn’t want to be accused of April Fools’ Day — it’s not — it’s just one day which costs us a lot of money. But we are going to do it in April. I’m a very superstitious person. April 2, reciprocal tariffs kick in, and whatever they tariff us, other countries, we will tariff them.”
‘Our country will be woke no longer’
Extolling his culture wars, Trump also talked about the crackdown on the purported 'woke' movement in the United States.
Trump declared that “our country will be woke no longer”. He went on to dub ‘wokeness’ as “trouble” and said the military had to be cleansed of it.
“Our service members won’t be activists and ideologues, they will be fighters and warriors, they will fight for our country and Pete, congratulations. Secretary of Defense. Congratulations. And he is not big into the woke movement, I can tell you that. I know him well. I am pleased to report that in January, the U.S. Army had its single best recruiting month in 15 years. And that all armed services are having among the best recruiting results ever in the history of our services. What a difference,” said Trump.
