French rapper MHD sentenced to 12 Years for murder

French rapper MHD, whose real name is Mohamed Sylla, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of a young man named Loic K in Paris back in 2018. A court in the capital city found 29-year-old MHD guilty of playing a role in the gang-related killing of 23-year-old Loic K. The tragic incident unfolded when Loic K was struck by MHD’s Mercedes and subsequently attacked and fatally stabbed by a group of around 12 individuals. Throughout the trial, MHD, known for his unique blend of trap and West African music called “Afro trap,” consistently asserted his innocence. He told the packed courtroom in Paris, “I have maintained my innocence in this case from the very beginning, and I will continue to do so.” He argued that the case against him was built on unfounded rumors and denied being present at the scene of the murder. However, evidence presented during the trial included a video recorded by a local resident from their window during the incident in the summer of 2018. This video quickly established that the car involved belonged to MHD. Furthermore, witnesses identified him by his distinctive haircut and clothing. In addition to MHD’s conviction, five of his co-defendants received prison sentences ranging from 10 to 18 years, while three others were acquitted. It remains uncertain whether those sentenced to prison plan to appeal. MHD, who enjoys a substantial following on social media, previously worked as a pizza delivery driver in Paris before pursuing a professional career in music.
