Former House speaker Nancy Pelosi hospitalised after injury during Luxembourg visit

Democratic former speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was on Friday hospitalised after she suffered an injury during an official visit to Luxembourg.

“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” The Guardian quoted spokesperson Ian Krager as saying.

The spokesperson further said that Pelosi is currently undergoing “excellent treatment”.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” added the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that the 84-year-old, who just won another term representing her district that centers on San Francisco, “looks forward to returning home to the US soon”.

According to The Hill report, citing Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), 18 House lawmakers were scheduled to travel to Luxembourg with the congressional delegation.

The group was set to participate in commemorative events for the anniversary on Friday and Sunday, added the report.

Pelosi, who stepped down from Democratic leadership last year after leading the caucus for nearly two decades, has remained an active member of Congress.

Despite stepping aside to allow a new generation of lawmakers to rise to leadership, the California Democrat continues to maintain a full schedule, which includes House votes, media appearances, and international travel.
