Islamabad: Amid increased military strikes against the Taliban, Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday said the armed forces would defeat "every threat" to the country.
He reiterated the resolve of the armed forces and said that with the backing of the nation, "We will accomplish our mission of defeating every threat to our motherland in accordance with the expectation of the people of Pakistan," a statement released by the military here said.
He made the remarks during a visit to Kotri Ranges to witness military exercises of the Karachi Corps.
Sharif emphasised on training and combat preparedness to respond to the full spectrum of threats with speed and effectiveness.
The exercises in Kotri, Sindh are aimed at training troops in various tactical operations under battlefield environment.
Fighter aircraft of Pakistan Air Force and armoured fighting vehicles of Mechanised Division also participated in live firing manoeuvres as part of the field firing.
Meanwhile, media reports said Sharif in a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad briefed Premier Nawaz Sharif about targets achieved so far in ongoing targeted air strikes in tribal areas of North Waziristan and Khyber.
The Pakistani military has been carrying out air strikes since last week in the volatile tribal regions which border Afghanistan, killing nearly 100 suspected terrorists.
