A 10-year-old lad from Florida and his 11-year-old sister decided to embark on a journey to California, covering a whopping 200 miles (about 320 kilometers) in their mum’s car before being intercepted by sheriff’s deputies, as disclosed by authorities. The siblings had made this daring escape after their mum confiscated the girl’s gadgets as a form of punishment, according to official sources. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office narrated that deputies spotted the kids’ vehicle cruising along Interstate 75 near Gainesville in northern Florida shortly before 4 a.m. on Thursday. A few hours earlier, in the city of North Port, situated in the southwest part of the state, their mother had reported both the car and her children as missing. The deputies, initially suspecting car theft, cautiously brandished their firearms and ordered the car’s occupants to exit. “To their great surprise, the deputies witnessed a 10-year-old boy stepping out of the vehicle, accompanied by his 11-year-old sister,” stated the department in an official release. The children explained to the deputies that the girl had become quite upset when their mum confiscated her electronic gadgets as a consequence of her misbehavior. Consequently, the boy took it upon himself to drive her all the way to California. Detectives conducted interviews with the children, concluding that there was no evidence to suggest any mistreatment by their mother or anyone else in their household. The mother chose not to pursue legal charges, and as a result, the children were reunited with her. For privacy reasons, the identities of the mother and children have not been disclosed.
