Israel has launched an attack on Iran, says its Defence Minister Israel Katz. In Tehran, explosions rang out across the Iranian capital. People in Tehran awoke to the sound of the blast. State television has acknowledged the blast.

Katz announced a “special situation” in Israel over Israel’s attack on Iran. He said schools would be closed in the country on Friday. There was no immediate word on what was struck.

“Following the State of Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future,” Israel Katz said.

In a statement on X, Iran’s military said, “Remember, we didn’t initiate it.”

Meanwhile, Israel has declared a state of emergency in the country in anticipation of retaliation from Tehran. A statement from the Israeli defence ministry said, “Following Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate term.”

It added, “Therefore, and in accordance with his authority under the Civil Defense Law, Defence Minister Israel Katz has now signed a special order, according to which a special state of emergency will be imposed in the home front throughout the entire State of Israel.”
