Former Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is in a critical health situation after complications related to a head injury reportedly sustained in early February 2026, according to unverified reports cited by News 18.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Bajwa is said to have suffered a fall at his Rawalpindi residence following a suspected fainting episode, possibly linked to an underlying cardiac condition.

The incident was described as a domestic incident by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations stating that the former General slipped or fainted restlessly due to a reported third-degree atrioventricular (AV) heart block.

Following the incident, Qamar Javed Bajwa was reportedly admitted to Combined Military Hospital, where he underwent medical evaluation and treatment, including possible pacemaker support.

Family and sources familiar with the situation had initially indicated in mid-February that Bajwa’s condition was stable, cited News 18.

Initial condition reported stable

Following the incident, Bajwa was reportedly conscious, responsive, and able to recognise family members. Early diagnostic assessments were said to show no alarming findings, and he was initially described as being out of danger.

However, by early March 2026, unverified reports indicated that Bajwa may have developed a severe brain haemorrhage, believed to be linked to the earlier head injury.

These claims suggest the condition led to disorientation, memory loss, and an inability to recognise even close family members.

No official confirmation

There has been no official statement from Pakistan’s military authorities or Bajwa’s family regarding any deterioration in his condition.

The reports remain unverified, cited by News 18 and are largely based on informal accounts circulating in sections of media and political commentary.

Health experts note that head injuries sustained during falls can sometimes result in delayed neurological complications. Additionally, a third-degree AV block—a condition affecting the heart’s electrical conduction system—can cause fainting episodes, increasing the risk of fall-related trauma.

Political background and allegations

Bajwa, who served as Pakistan’s Army Chief from 2016 to 2022, has continued to feature prominently in political discussions post-retirement.

According to a June 2024 report by ANI citing ARY News, Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed alleged that Bajwa played a role in the political developments leading to the ouster of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government headed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.

The report also referenced remarks published by Dawn, in which Imran Khan expressed regret over trusting Bajwa, alleging that the former army chief had orchestrated events contributing to his removal from office.

Status remains unclear

As of now, no official medical bulletin has confirmed reports of a brain haemorrhage or any semi-coma condition. Authorities have yet to provide a formal update on Bajwa’s health.
