Decoding Nawaz Sharif's invite to Geelani: It's a ploy to keep Indo-Pak talks scuttled

As the old saying goes, “you can awaken a sleeping person, but you can never awaken a person faking to be asleep." This cannot be more applicable to anyone than Pakistan that does everything to keep the India-Pakistan hostility alive. While Pakistan keeps saying that it is for dialogue with India, it comes up with such proposals that are contrary to what it says. The latest such act being the invitation extended to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. [caption id=“attachment_2464224” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif. AP[/caption] The letter from Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, handed over to Geelani’s representatives by Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit, reportedly speaks the Pakistan Army Chief’s recent language that Kashmir is an unfinished agenda and Pakistan was morally and diplomatically with Kashmiris. The present act of Pakistan is just another effort to ensure that the dialogue process does not commence. This follows the two similar recent attempts of Pakistan in this direction. One being the 2014 talks, which India called off as a result of Pakistani envoy talking to the Hurriyat and the more recent one being the talks between the NSAs of the two countries after the Ufa promise, when again Pakistan insisted on talks with the Hurriyat leaders. There is an unreasonable comparison between India sympathising with the demoralised Baloch leaders, which the whole world does, and Pakistan patronizing and instigating Kashmiri separatists. One tends to completely forget that India has never demanded resolution of Baloch issue as a precondition for any dialogue between the two countries. Indian has neither interfered in Baloch affairs nor has been involved in waging a war against Pakistan and spreading violence as Pakistan is doing in Kashmir, though Pakistan has been claiming the same at every opportunity with no proof and with no one even attempting to hear them at the international platform. International community should take note of the Pakistani behaviour and be sensible in deciding who is against a dialogue. India has always been a peace-loving country and will continue to be so. On the other hand, Pakistan, the origin of which was based on religion, continues to be a religiously fanatic country with wanted international criminals like Hafeez Saeed and Lakhvi enjoying State patronage. Pakistan’s continued attempts at sabotaging India’s every effort for talks is a clear indicator that it chooses to not finding a solution for peace and wants to maintain a status quo of instability and animosity. By inviting Geelani and not Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, the Chairman of the Hurriyat, Pakistan has unwittingly let its intentions of sabotaging dialogue apparent. Geelani is a known Pakistani mole while Mirwaiz is a moderate leader ready for talks with New Delhi. By not giving the importance that Mirwaiz deserves, Pakistan has scored a negative point for itself. Such lapses do occur when your approach is nothing but negative. No marks on this to the immature policy planners of Pakistan and the Pakistan army which directs them to do so. The so-called powerful and influential nations and organizations of the world who control the policies of other nations, should rise above their petty strategic gains and join hands in checking the activities of countries like Pakistan, which has gained notoriety of being the terror hub of the world.
