Convicted rapists in UK to serve full prison sentence under new law reforms

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is preparing to reveal new measures that would make convicted rapists serve their entire prison sentences, as part of a significant shift in the government’s approach to tackling crime. According to reports, Justice Secretary Alex Chalk has been tasked with developing these proposals, and they are expected to be included in the King’s Speech in November. The Prime Minister is also likely to address these changes in an upcoming speech. A source within the Conservative Party referred to these alterations as a “gear change” aimed at revealing the true intentions of Rishi Sunak’s leadership. In a recent speech, Prime Minister Sunak emphasized the need to address long-term challenges facing the country. He previously announced his intention to amend the law so that convicted criminals are required to attend their sentencing hearings, particularly in the wake of the case where murderer Lucy Letby did not appear at her hearing. Furthermore, Prime Minister Sunak disclosed plans to impose life sentences without the possibility of parole for the most heinous murderers, with judges compelled to administer the harshest penalty in the UK’s criminal justice system, with only a few exceptional cases. These legal changes would also establish life imprisonment as the default sentence for sexually motivated murders. Speaking on this matter, the Prime Minister stated, “I share the public’s shock at the brutality of recent crimes. In the gravest cases, people rightly expect that life imprisonment means exactly that. We are committed to honesty in sentencing, and by introducing mandatory whole-life orders for the most despicable murderers, we will ensure they never regain their freedom.”
