Police in Bangladesh have arrested five individuals, including the prime accused in connection to a rape of a woman at her home in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. According to The Dhaka Tribune, the news of the arrest was confirmed by the Superintendent of Police, Nazir Ahmed Khan, on Sunday morning.
The Bangladeshi authorities noted that the incident took place on Thursday night when the accused Fazor Ali, 38, forcibly entered the house by breaking down the door and raped the woman, whose identity has been kept hidden, given the severity of the crime.
The survivor filed a case with the Muradnagar police station on Friday afternoon. By Sunday, 5 am (local time), Fazor Ali was arrested in the Sayedabad area in Dhaka. He was later brought back to Comilla for legal proceedings, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
The other four involved in the case were Md Sumon, Ramzan Ali, Md Arif, and Md Anik, who were arrested for filming the assault, which was eventually circulated online. The police told local reporters that the survivor told the authorities that she had been visiting her father’s house with her children for the past 15 days.
At around 10 pm on Thursday, Fazor appeared at the house and demanded that she open the door. When she refused, he broke in and raped her. The neighbour told police that they had heard loud noises from the house that night and rushed over with others to find that the door was broken.
