Nepal has awarded a $16.9 million contract to a Chinese company to design and print 430 million pieces of its ₹1,000 denomination banknotes, officials confirmed.
A Chinese firm has secured a contract to design and print 430 million pieces of Nepal’s ₹1,000 denomination banknotes, officials said on Saturday (November 8, 2025), as reported by PTI.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday (November 7) issued a letter of intent to the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation for the design, printing, supply, and delivery of the notes.
According to the bank’s Currency Management Department, the total project cost has been set at $16.985 million. The Chinese company was awarded the contract after submitting the lowest evaluated bid and has previously printed Nepalese banknotes in denominations of ₹5, ₹10, ₹100, and ₹500.
