China’s first commercial space launch site, situated in Hainan province, has achieved readiness for rocket launches, announced the construction site headquarters on Sunday.
After comprehensive evaluations, the facility has fulfilled all criteria necessary to commence launch activities, the announcement stated, as per China’s Xinhua news agency.
Construction of the Hainan commercial space launch site commenced in July 2022, marking China’s first dedicated facility for commercial space missions.
Significant infrastructure milestones have been met, including the setting-up of fueling and gas supply systems, substations, and launch pads.
On Sunday, the site conducted a simulated rocket launch exercise as part of its operational preparations.
Yang Tianliang, chairman of Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Co., Ltd., confirmed plans for the site’s inaugural rocket launch in the latter half of this year, heralding the commencement of its commercial operations.
Future plans include expanding the launch site to accommodate additional launch pads, aimed at providing both domestic and international rocket and satellite launch services. This expansion is expected to accelerate China’s advancements in commercial space technology.
