US President Donald Trump has rebuked Canada’s business deal with China, saying that Beijing will “eat them up”, as he lamented Prime Minister Mark Carney’s opposition to the building of the ‘Golden Dome’ in Greenland.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that the missile system in Greenland would protect Canada, too. “Canada is against The Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though The Golden Dome would protect Canada. Instead, they voted in favor of doing business with China, who will “eat them up” within the first year!” he said.

The president’s recent comments come as he and Carney engage in a war of words over Greenland and Washington’s relationship with the US going downhill.

What did Trump say about Golden Dome?

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this week, Trump reiterated his plan to take over Greenland. During his speech, Trump mentioned the Golden Dome, saying, “We’re building a Golden Dome that’s going to, just by its very nature, be defending Canada."

He went on to say that Ottawa benefits from the US-Canada relationship disproportionately. “We’re building a Golden Dome that’s going to, just by its very nature, be defending Canada. Canada lives because of the United States.”

‘Canada doesn’t live on freebies’

Carney on Thursday sharply rebutted Trump’s controversial claim at the WEF that “Canada lives because of the United States.” In a national address, Carney said, “Canada and the United States have built a remarkable partnership,” adding, “Canada doesn’t live because of the United States. Canada thrives because we are Canadian.”
