A day after an incident in disputed water of the South China Sea, China’s military ministry warned the Philippines against “provocative” activities and said that they swore to protect its territorial sovereignty on Sunday.
“We warn the Philippines to stop making any remarks that may lead to the intensification of conflicts and escalation of the situation, and stop all infringing and provocative actions,” the defence ministry said in a statement.
“If the Philippines repeatedly challenges China’s bottom line, China will continue to take firm and decisive measures to firmly safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests,” the statement continued.
The comments followed the announcement by China’s coast guard that it had taken actions against Philippine warships in disputed areas close to the Spratly Islands and Second Thomas Shoal the day before, moves deemed “irresponsible and provocative” by the Philippines.
The Philippine task force on the South China Sea stated in a statement on Saturday that the incident involved the deployment of water cannons on a civilian boat chartered to replenish troops.
