Canadian nuclear trade delegates to discuss collaboration with India

Toronto: A Canadian nuclear trade mission will visit Mumbai this week to discuss opportunities to collaborate with India in both domestic and offshore markets. The visit by the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI) and a delegation of leading Canadian companies has been organised in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment and the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi. “The Canadian team in Mumbai this week reflects the strong collaboration among industry, provincial and federal governments in bringing the full spectrum of Canadian nuclear energy capability to the world stage,” said OCI President Ron Oberth. AP[/caption] “I am very pleased to be in Mumbai with 12 leading Canadian nuclear organisations that are looking for opportunities to collaborate with Indian partners in both domestic and offshore markets,” he said. India and Canada had signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement in 2010 that allowed them to initiate negotiations for supply of uranium. “The growing demand for high quality services and equipment in India’s nuclear energy sector represents a promising export market for Canadian nuclear suppliers, notably in Ontario,” an official statement said. Joining the OCI on the trade mission are nine companies that manufacture specialised nuclear equipment and provide unique engineering services. The private-sector delegates are also being joined by representatives from Ontario Power Generation, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. The Trade Mission will provide Canadian suppliers with unique insights into potential opportunities in India through meetings and events arranged by the High Commission of Canada in India, including a high level Business Forum in Mumbai hosted by The Canada-India Business Council on November 29. Oberth will moderate a panel discussion on “Indo-Canadian Nuclear Collaboration”.
