Posters that urged violence against Indian diplomats at a Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada, have been removed after local authorities stepped in. This action comes as relations between Canada and India deteriorated due to allegations of India’s involvement in the murder of a Khalistani terrorist earlier this year. Sources indicate that the Surrey Gurdwara was instructed to take down the posters that called for the killing of three Indian diplomats. Authorities recognized the seriousness of the situation and the negative perception of such messages originating from Canadian soil. Furthermore, the Gurdwara has been advised against using loudspeakers for any extremist announcements.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, aged 45, who led the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and was one of India’s most-wanted terrorists, was fatally shot by two unidentified individuals outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, located in the western Canadian province of British Columbia, on June 18. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused “agents of the Indian government” of involvement in the killing on Monday. In response, New Delhi dismissed these claims as “ridiculous” and “biased” and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat, mirroring Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official related to the case. On Thursday, India urged Canada to take strong action against terrorists and anti-India elements operating from its territory. India also suspended visa services for Canadians as tensions escalated between the two nations over Nijjar’s killing, pushing their relationship to an all-time low. Additionally, India called on Canada to reduce the size of its diplomatic staff in the country, arguing for parity in the number and rank of diplomatic personnel. Canada currently has more diplomatic staff in India than New Delhi has in Canada.
