A tragic accident in a tunnel on a northern Chinese expressway resulted in the death of 14 individuals and injuries to 37 others, as reported by state media on Wednesday.
The incident took place just after 2:30 pm local time on Tuesday, with local Shanxi province authorities confirming the details to state broadcaster CCTV.
The bus, carrying 51 passengers, collided with the interior wall of the tunnel.
State news agency Xinhua also reported on the accident, confirming the death and injury toll but did not provide specific information regarding the condition of the survivors.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, according to Xinhua. Road accidents are common in China due to a lack of strict safety controls.
In February of last year, 16 people were killed and dozens more injured in a pile-up in central Hunan province.
The month before that, 19 people died and 20 were injured in a road accident in eastern Jiangxi province.
