After it emerged that people without passports had been left off its safe travel list, the government of UK was accused of separating British children in Gaza from their mothers. The Foreign Office has added names to a list of British nationals who are permitted to travel from Gaza to Egypt through the Rafah border; however, some claim that the list does not include their dependents. According to a body that represents them, the policy is in contrast to the decisions made during the evacuation of Ukraine, when any member of a British citizen’s family would be granted a visa. According to Louise Harkin of Support Families in Gaza, “They have made it very evident that British Palestinians are receiving very different treatment than those escaping the conflict in Ukraine.” Right now, Gaza is the world’s least safe location. Despite the fact that nearly half of the approximately 10,000 verified deaths were children, the government now wants to take British youngsters away from their mothers and families. “We demand that the government permit British nationals to travel with their families.” British nationals who were among the first to enter Egypt called the Rafah border, which serves as both the only exit for foreigners leaving Gaza and the only point of entry for supplies arriving, “absolute chaos” and said the government had “abandoned” them. Out of the approximately 7,000 foreign nationals registered by embassies with the Egyptian government, it is known that hundreds of British nationals are still imprisoned in Gaza. According to the government, anybody who needs a visa must apply for one before leaving the country, including dependents of British citizens like wives, partners, and minor children.
