In the Scottish island of Skerries, a 10-year-old Aron Anderson is the only student in the Skerries Community School. He has two classrooms , a library and a playground all to himself but no one to play with. As bizarre that sounds, Aron has no problems with it but it does get lonely at times.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Aron said, “It is quite weird sometimes – not having anyone else at school. But I like this island. I can ride around and explore on my bike; in summer I can swim in the sea and jump off the pier."
Aron doesn’t have problems like other children of his age. He always gets picked by teachers for answers and he is the first to arrive and the last one to leave the school premise. Annually, Aron’s education costs the local council £75,357, which makes Aron one of the most expensively educated children in the UK, The Daily Mail reported.
With no human friends to engage with, Aron’s best friends are his dog, some ducks and flocks of sheep. Aron’s father, Ewan, who is 43-year-old is a fisherman and mom Denise, who is 46-year-old is a trained firefighter.
Speaking to The Telegraph , Denise said, “I do feel sorry for Aron being all by himself at school – but he really is happy. Spending a lot of time with adults has made him quite grown-up, but he does enjoy trips to the mainland to meet other children. I just wish we could go back ten years. It would be lovely to have some more families here. And if any did decide to come, there is already a ten-year-old here for their children to play with.”
