Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh interim government has revoked both permanent and temporary press accreditation for 118 journalists, including editors, reporters, and executives from TV stations, bringing the total number of journalists stripped of accreditation to 167.
According to a Dhaka Tribune report, the latest order, issued on November 7, was signed by Md Nizamul Kabir, Chief Information Officer of the Press Information Department (PID) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The notice states that the revocations were made in accordance with various provisions of the Press Accreditation Policy-2022.
Previously, on October 29, the government had already cancelled the cards of 20 journalists.
Then, on November 3, another 29 journalists were informed that their press cards were being revoked.
This move is part of a broader government initiative to enforce its media policies and ensure that press credentials are granted only to those meeting specific standards.
Press accreditation cards are necessary for access to the Secretariat.
