As the clashes between protesters and police intensify in Bangladesh, reports are emerging that the country’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana have left the country.
According to Reuters, the Bangladeshi PM resigned and left the country on Monday, as more people were killed in some of the worst violence since the birth of the South Asian nation more than five decades ago.
A report by Dhaka Tribune said around 2:30 pm on Monday Hasina took a military helicopter, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana and they were heading to West Bengal in neighbouring India.
The reports of her resignation came a day after nearly 100 people, including 14 cops, were killed in clashes with police. The violence has been worse since the birth of the South Asian nation more than five decades ago. Protesters have been demanding her resignation.
