Turbulence in Bangladesh continues to escalate following the death of Youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. On Saturday, a Bangladeshi mob broke through the security barricades and barged into the country’s parliament shortly after Hadi’s funeral. The student leader’s death reignited unrest across the country, with protesters demanding immediate justice.
Hadi was a well-known youth leader who was shot in the head by masked gunmen on December 12, while he was attending a rally in the Bijoynagar area of central Dhaka. He was rushed to a hospital in Singapore, where he was receiving advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to injuries just six days after he was shot.
The news of Hadi’s demise triggered large-scale demonstrations in Dhaka as thousands of people poured onto the streets late Thursday and early Friday, calling for justice. The unrest soon spread from Dhaka to other parts of the country, with protesters attempting to march toward Indian diplomatic sites and vandalising offices of two prominent Bangladeshi news outlets.
After Hadi’s funeral, mob terrorists broke through the barricades and once again occupied Bangladesh’s Parliament building.

Hadi was buried amid a massive crowd
After his body arrived in Dhaka, Hadi was buried next to the grave of Bangladesh’s national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam. Funeral prayers were offered at the South Plaza of the parliament building at 2:30 PM (local time).
Bangladesh’s chief advisor Muhammad Yunus also paid his respect to the student activist. However, calls for unrest continued with Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of the Inqilab Manch, calling on supporters to march to Shahbag after the funeral for a protest.
