Bangladesh on Tuesday began live-streaming the hearing in the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who faces charges of ‘crimes against humanity’ related to the July 2024 mass protests.
According to Prothom Alo English, the hearing, which started at 11:45 am, marks the start of proceedings to frame formal charges.
It is being conducted by a three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, with Justices Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury also on the bench, added the report.
Alongside Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun are co-accused in the case.
While Mamun is currently in custody, Hasina and Khan remain absconding. In their absence, the tribunal has appointed Md Amir Hossain as state defence counsel.
The formal charges were first submitted on June 1, during a session that was also broadcast live.
