It has been reported that former Australian world champion cyclist Rohan Dennis has been charged in relation to the death of his wife, Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins, 32, who passed away in Adelaide after being hit by a car. According to Australian media reports, Dennis is accused of driving recklessly, putting life in danger, and causing death by dangerous driving. According to the reports, he was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Adelaide in March. Emergency services were dispatched to a Medindie, Adelaide suburb, at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to South Adelaide Police, in response to reports that a woman had been hit by a car. After being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, the woman—later identified as Hoskins—suffered grave injuries, according to police. “A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and endangering life, police said. The driver was known to the woman and given bail to appear in court on March 13,” police added. Our condolences go to Melissa’s family, friends and the cycling community at this extremely difficult time.” Hoskins won gold in the team pursuit at the 2015 world championships and was a member of the Australian team at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.
