Around Brexit results, porn wasn't hot enough on Google search

We know that sex and porn are probably the most searched for terms on Google. Well, there was some disagreement in the Firstpost office about what people type in when they are looking for porn. A few of us thought that people would get into specifics — girl on girl, college girls… you get the drift. Turns out, that is not true. People do really just type in porn, that was a major #TIL. And this just makes us feel stupid to assume that people search for anything more than just “porn” or “sex” to get right down to business. Fun fact: Highest searches for porn and sex happen on Saturdays. Hmmm. Anyway, we’re not here to talk to you about porn, that was just to trap into you reading about how, between 22 and 25 June, Brexit overtook porn in the search game. A moment of silence for the all the clicks that were originally meant for YouPorn and RedTube.

Red - Brexit, Blue - Porn, Yellow - Sex

According to a Market Watch report, Brexit outdid even soccer and football in search frequency. Britain voted to leave the European Union by 52 percent to 48 percent, after nearly all the results had been counted and this referendum had a profound impact on the global markets in a large scale. So maybe it’s a good thing that people took time from their ‘me time’ to do something else? Did you know that right after the historic referendum, where British citizens voted to leave the EU, Google Trends reported a sharp increase in basic questions about the consequences of the vote (after the results were in, FYI) Yes, basic questions like, “What happens if we leave the EU?”, “What is Brexit?”, “What is EU referendum?”, “Where can I vote?”
