Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said during a closing statement that an Arab summit convened in Cairo on Tuesday adopted an Egyptian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The plan aims to counter President Donald Trump’s proposals for a ”Middle East Riviera” by presenting a scheme for rebuilding the devastated strip without displacing its population.

Trump sparked widespread international criticism when he initially proposed the idea of the United States “taking over” the Gaza Strip and transforming it into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” while relocating its Palestinian population to Egypt and Jordan.

The Arab League summit comes amid renewed backing for Trump’s plan from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described it as “visionary and innovative.”

However, Palestinians, Arab nations, and many U.S. and Israeli allies have firmly rejected the proposal, opposing any attempts to displace Gazans from their homeland.
