Nepal Earthquake: Yet another earthquake has been reported from Nepal which was already reeling after being hit by severe earthquakes earlier on Tuesday. “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.3, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 17:04:13 IST, Lat: 29.42 & Long: 81.18, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 94km E of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand,” the National Center for Seismology said in a stamen on social media. Earlier on Tuesday, several earthquakes struck Nepal. These included a 4.6 and 6.2 magnitude quake that occurred within 25 minutes of one another, a third that was 3.8 magnitude 15 minutes later, and a fourth that was 3.1 magnitude 13 minutes later, at 3.19 PM IST—were followed by powerful tremors felt in Delhi. At 2.25 PM, the first earthquake occurred. The National Centre for Seismology reports that around 3.27 PM IST, there was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Arunachal Pradesh and a 3.3 magnitude disturbance in Uttarakhand. The strongest earthquake’s epicentre was 284 kilometres north of Lucknow and 206 kilometres southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:51:04 IST, Lat: 29.39 & Long: 81.23, Depth: 5 Km ,Location: Nepal,” the NCS said in a statement. Delhi and neighbouring areas of the national capital region witnessed the effects of the earthquake. After the second earthquake, many in Delhi-NCR reported feeling significant tremors and left office buildings. Social media was inundated with videos of people fleeing out of buildings. “We hope you all are safe. Please come out of your buildings to a safe spot, but do not panic. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS! For any emergency help, dial 112,” Delhi Police said in a statement. In 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha, tremors were detected. Five of the districts that border Nepal experienced tremors. Several locations in Uttarakhand also felt tremors. According to a media reports, tremors were also reported in other northern Indian cities like Chandigarh and Jaipur. Following a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Meghalaya on Monday, tremors were detected in Assam and other north-east states. It struck around 6:15 PM. The North Garo Hills, three km from Resubelpara, the district’s administrative centre. Nepal is very susceptible to earthquakes because it is located in one of the tectonically active regions of the planet (Seismic Zone IV and V). A 7.8-magnitude earthquake that occurred in April 2015 left over 21,000 people injured and over 8,000 dead.
