Benjamin Netanyahu hosted X CEO and US billionaire Elon Musk amid the ceasefire in conflict with Hamas and gave him a tour of Kibbutz Kfar Aza ravaged during the 7 October attack. Musk accompanied by Netanyahu saw first-hand the actions of Hamas in Kfar Aza in southern Israel, a place where the Palestinian terrorist group committed some of its most horrendous massacres on 7 October.

A statement issued by Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, “Netanyahu showed Musk the horrors of the massacre in the kibbutz from the events of the Saturday of 7 October.” “Musk heard the story of the heroism of the late Ofir Libstein, the head of the regional council who was murdered on the morning of 7 October in an exchange of fire with terrorists who infiltrated the kibbutz,” the PMO added. During his visit, Musk also heard briefings from a local council leader as well as from a representative of the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit about the massacres in the kibbutz. Musk was also taken to the home of the community’s security chief Ofir Libstein, who was killed in a gunfight with Hamas terrorists. Musk also heard the story of Israeli-American 4-year-old Avigail Idan who was kidnapped to Gaza and was released on Sunday (26 November) as part of a hostage deal. Netanyahu and Musk proceeded to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, and are expected to have a conversation. Musk’s visit to Israel comes amid accusations from civil rights groups about the X CEO’s alleged role in amplifying antisemtic sentiments on his social media platform (X, formerly Twitter). Last month, as the war raged following a Hamas killing and kidnapping spree in southern Israel, Musk proposed using Starlink to support communication links in the blackout-hit Gaza enclave with “internationally recognised aid organizations”. At the time, Israeli Communications Shlomo Karhi objected, saying “Hamas will use it (Starlink) for terrorist activities”. But in a new tack, Karhi said on Monday Israel and Musk had reached an agreement in principle whereby “Starlink satellite units can only be operated in Israel with the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Communications, including the Gaza Strip”. In a post on X, addressed to Musk, Karhi said he hoped the visit to Israel “will serve as a springboard for future endeavors, as well as enhance your relationship with the Jewish people and values we share with the entire world”.
Elon Musk, I congratulate you for reaching a principle understanding with the Ministry of Communications under my leadership.

Musk has said he is against antisemitism and anything that “promotes hate and conflict” - including on X. Antisemitism and Islamophobia have risen worldwide, including during the seven-week-old Gaza war. Israel and Hamas are now in a temporary truce, with some Gaza hostages and Palestinians held by Israel for security offences going free. With inputs from agencies
