The Ministry of National Defence of Afghanistan has issued a formal clarification on the recently announced ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, highlighting the commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and mutual respect between the two neighboring nations.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry stressed that the Defence Minister of the Islamic Emirate had already provided a comprehensive explanation during a press conference and that no further information exists beyond those remarks.

“Islamic Emirate’s Defense Minister has provided a comprehensive explanation during a press conference, concerning the agreement with Pakistan; no further information exists beyond that,” the ministry posted.
According to the ministry’s clarification, the agreement focuses on key principles, including a complete ceasefire, non-aggression, and the use of dialogue as the sole mechanism for resolving disputes.
“The agreement completely emphasises ceasefire, mutual respect, the avoidance of attacks on each other’s security forces, civilians, and facilities, the resolution of all matters through dialogue, and not facilitating attacks against one another,” the ministry said in a statement.

The clarification comes after the Afghan government spokesperson announced on Sunday that a comprehensive ceasefire had been reached with Pakistan. The agreement was signed in Qatar with the support of both Qatari and Turkish mediators.
In a series of posts on X, the spokesperson expressed gratitude to Qatar and Turkiye for their “instrumental role” in facilitating the negotiations that led to the bilateral understanding.
The terms of the agreement stipulate that neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan will engage in hostile actions against the other, nor support armed groups targeting the Pakistani government. Both sides also agreed to refrain from attacking each other’s security forces, civilians, or critical infrastructure.
The spokesperson further elaborated: “…Both sides reaffirm their commitment to peace, mutual respect, …and the maintenance of strong and constructive neighborly relations. Both sides are committed to resolving issues and disputes through dialogue. A comprehensive and meaningful ceasefire has been mutually agreed upon. It has been decided that neither country will undertake any hostile actions against the other, nor will they support groups carrying out attacks against the Government of Pakistan. Both sides will refrain from targeting each other’s security forces, civilians, or critical infrastructure.”
To support effective implementation and transparency, the agreement includes a provision for establishing a future mechanism under the mediation of intermediary nations.
The ceasefire follows a serious escalation in tensions, including a deadly Pakistani airstrike on Friday that killed 17 people — including three Afghan cricketers — in southeastern Afghanistan’s Paktika province.
According to Tolo News, the strikes targeted residential areas in Argun and Barmal districts, resulting in significant civilian casualties and prompting international calls for de-escalation.
On Saturday, the Qatari Foreign Ministry confirmed that both sides had agreed to an “immediate ceasefire” and would hold follow-up meetings to ensure the agreement’s sustainability and to foster long-term peace and stability in the region.
This ceasefire marks a significant step in addressing long-standing border tensions and restoring diplomatic engagement between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
