After Chile & Columbia, Honduras calls back its ambassador to Israel

Honduras has joined a list of countries to recall its ambassador to Israel following criticism of the country’s actions in Gaza. “Given the grave humanitarian situation that the civil population of the Gaza Strip are enduring, the government of President Xiomara Castro has decided to immediately call the ambassador of the Republic of Honduras in Israel, Roberto Martinez, to go to consultations to Tegucigalpa,” the Honduran Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduardo Enrique Reina wrote on X.   Reina had earlier told CNN that Honduras is pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza to establish a humanitarian corridor.   Earlier this week, Bolivia said it was severing diplomatic ties with Israel as a rebuke for its bloody offensive in the Gaza Strip after a deadly Hamas attack more than three weeks ago. The government “has decided to cut diplomatic relations with the State of Israel, in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive being carried out in the Gaza Strip,” deputy foreign minister Freddy Mamani told a press conference. Chile, which has the largest Palestinian population outside the Arab world, also said it was recalling its ambassador to Israel in protest against Israel’s “unacceptable violations of international humanitarian law.” The decision came after Colombia called for Israel’s ambassador to leave the country before rowing back the comments in a diplomatic spat over the offensive.
